On the Explore you have to trick the software into cutting a 12 inch border. I did this on the 12x24 inch mat and moved the design and my paper to the 1 inch mark plus making sure the design in the preview was moved down to the inch square, I also moved the rest of the pieces in that color to fit on my mat and not be cut on the line between my two pieces of paper. (I missed just a little but it all worked out and my border was the right size.
